Distance and driver hours
The biggest single factor on a cross-country move. Beyond roughly 250 miles, driver hours regulations may make a two-day plan the safer option.
Volume, not just miles
A one-bedroom flat going from Bradford to Bristol can cost less than a four-bedroom house moving across Leeds. Size drives the vehicle and crew you need.
Access at both ends
Stairs, lifts, narrow lanes, permit parking and long carries all add time — and they can differ wildly between your old and new address.
Ferries and islands
Northern Ireland and island moves depend on sailing schedules and ferry costs, which is why we quote them individually rather than from a price list.

Which areas of the UK do you cover?
Friends Logists UK covers all four nations of the United Kingdom: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. We work across every English region, all 32 Scottish council areas, all 22 Welsh principal areas and all six counties of Northern Ireland. Our daily local work is in Bradford, Leeds, Halifax, Huddersfield and the rest of West Yorkshire.
Do I have to be moving from Yorkshire?
No. Although we're based in Bradford, we carry out moves that start and finish anywhere in the UK. Plenty of our customers are moving into Yorkshire, and plenty of others are moving between two places that have nothing to do with Yorkshire at all.
Do you really move people to Northern Ireland?
Yes. Moves to and from Northern Ireland involve a ferry crossing, usually from Cairnryan or Liverpool, so the timings and costs work differently to a mainland move. We quote these individually rather than from a standard price list — call us and we'll talk it through.
Do you cover the Scottish Highlands and islands?
We cover the Highlands by road, including Inverness, Fort William and the far north. Island moves — the Hebrides, Orkney, Shetland, the Isle of Man, the Isle of Wight and the Channel Islands — depend on ferry availability, so please ask us before you assume either way.
How is the price affected by distance?
Distance is one factor among several. A long move costs more in fuel, driver hours and sometimes overnight accommodation, but the size of your home, access at both ends and whether you need packing often matter just as much. Every quote is fixed in writing before you commit.
Can you do a long distance move in one day?
Most UK moves are completed in a single day, including popular routes like Yorkshire to London or Manchester to Glasgow. Very long routes, moves from large homes, or anything involving a ferry may run over two days — we'll tell you honestly which applies to your move when we quote.
Do you charge extra for moving to a different region?
There's no regional surcharge. You're quoted on the actual job: the distance travelled, the volume being moved, the access at both addresses and any extra services. Nothing is added simply because an address sits over a county or national border.

Yes. Insurance cover of up to £25,000 applies to every move we carry out, wherever in the UK it starts and finishes.
